The best Deputy alternatives in 2026

Deputy is a capable scheduling and time-clock product, and for plenty of hourly teams it's the right choice. People start looking elsewhere for a few recurring reasons: per-user pricing that climbs with every hire, payroll and HR sold as add-ons, or work that reaches past the rota. These are the alternatives worth a serious look, what each does best and what it costs.

GetUp is our product. It appears on this list where it fits, with its limits spelled out. Every price was read from the vendor's own pricing page on September 15, 2026.

Why people look for Deputy alternatives

Cost rises with every hire
All Deputy plans are per user. A 40-person team on Core pays $260 a month before add-ons, and each new hire adds $6.50.
Payroll and HR are extras
Deputy Payroll adds $8 per user plus a $49 monthly base, so payroll for that same 40-person team is another $369 a month. HR is $2 per user on top.
The rota is only part of the job
If you also want an archive of supplier invoices, a login for your accountant or one view across several brands, Deputy leaves those to other tools.

How to choose

  1. 01

    Count people per location

Per-user pricing suits small or seasonal teams. Per-location or flat pricing usually costs less once each site has a larger crew.

  2. 02

    Decide who finishes payroll

Some tools process payroll and taxes, others pass hours to a payroll provider or accountant. Settle this first, because it changes which prices you're really comparing.

  3. 03

Test clock-in on a busy shift

Kiosks, phone apps and on-site codes behave very differently at a crowded door. Try the staff side during the trial, not only the manager screens.

The alternatives, in detail

  1. 01

    GetUp

    Our product

Best for: Multi-location teams that want scheduling, wages and paperwork in one account

GetUp covers shift planning, check-in at each site and wages calculated from real hours, then adds an invoice and receipt archive, accountant logins and an AI assistant, on a flat monthly plan instead of per-user fees. It doesn't file payroll taxes, so US and UK teams still close payroll with a provider.

    Where it's strong

    • Several brands and locations under one account and one login
    • Wages calculated from each person's real check-in and check-out times
    • An invoice and receipt archive with the original files, plus sales invoices in the Stock module on Scale
    • Accountants get their own login with per-feature access, without taking an employee seat
    • An AI assistant that answers from your own shifts, wages and invoices

    Watch out for

    • It doesn't withhold or file payroll taxes, so US and UK teams still finish payroll with a provider or accountant
    • One account is one company: separate legal entities need separate accounts
    • No free plan, and no billing in GBP
    • Staff check in by entering a code shown on the location's tablet, so everyone needs their own login

    $108 / €99 a month

Flat monthly plans. Core is $108 for up to 25 employees, 3 locations and 2 brands; Growth is $173 (60 employees, 6 locations); Scale is $282 (100 employees, 10 locations). Extra employees on Core cost $7 each a month. Billed in USD, EUR or PLN.

Questions people ask

What's the cheapest alternative to Deputy?

For small teams, the free plans from Sling (up to 30 users) and Homebase (one location, up to 10 employees) cost nothing. Among per-user tools, When I Work starts at $2.50 a user against Deputy's $5 on Lite.

Is there a Deputy alternative without per-user pricing?

Yes. Homebase and 7shifts charge per location, and GetUp is a flat monthly plan that includes up to 25 employees on Core. Connecteam charges a flat hub fee for the first 30 users.

Which Deputy alternatives include payroll?

Homebase and 7shifts sell payroll add-ons (from $39 a month plus $6 per employee paid), and 7shifts includes it on Premium. GetUp calculates gross wages from check-in hours but doesn't process payroll taxes.

Can GetUp replace Deputy?

For scheduling, check-in and wage calculation across several locations, yes, and it adds an invoice archive, accountant logins and an AI assistant. If you depend on Deputy's demand forecasting or on payroll that files taxes, GetUp doesn't cover that.
